Quick Winter Trips - Door County

While winter took it's time, once it came it's been fast and furious. I was surprised how quickly the walls began to close in. The forest and the streams start to call to us and we can't help but answer. A few quick winter trips were just the answer. You'll see just how far behind I am in posting. Sitting here is just not a priority and I must say I am enjoying so many other things void of the feeling I "should" put this up or write about that. It rarely crosses my mind and it's truly freeing.

The first trip was a weekend away, mid November, to Door County, just my husband and a few friends. I no longer remember where we stayed but it was a rented condo complex and very nice indeed. There was, for the first time in a very long while, no care taking duties before me and I wondered if I could truly find relaxation. While we booked this trip because of the unusual spring like weather, by the time it came to be winter had found it's way. It changed things up a bit as gale force winds, biting cold, and open deer season made wandering the woods uncomfortable and dangerous, we still found beauty in those woods and along the shores as large waves crashed before our eyes. A sight of nature many never experience that is truly beautiful in it's fury.
We didn't stop here. It is the woods that I feel most at home and relaxed so into the woods we went, seeking refuge from the fast winds. We enjoyed the scene of tree tops dancing as if we were spying upon a great castle ball. Call me strange but I loved the feeling of crashing their private party as they swayed to the music of mother nature.
...and in the safe places, among the trees, where hunters camped, not 100 feet away, where hunting was not allowed, we came upon a herd. I swear we heard them laughing at those hunters saying, "You can't get me and I'm right beneath your nose". Not being a hunter I loved this, and the fact that they didn't run when we came upon them, I'm thinking they knew our lack of blaze orange meant we were safe and came as friends... how many do you see in this photo?
I love the woods!
