Winter Day Tripping - Prairie Du Sac

The second winter trip was a quick day jaunt with friends to the Prairie Du Sac area. We've come in the past for their annual Eagle Days event. This year we could not manage that weekend so we did it on our own a few weeks early. In spite of the cold weather and abundant snowfall, the long spring and couple significantly warm days between the snow and the cold have kept the river open. We were disappointed of the lack of roosting eagles that we could see near the dam. Most were flying and impossible to photograph. There were in fact no eagles roosting in the trees where in the years past, like we saw a few years ago.

Sauk City Eagle Days 2014

This year the only roosting Eagles we found were in the middle of the city, behind some homes. This pair was the only two we saw not flying the entire day. Still, they are magnificent birds and the weather was wonderful, as was the company. You can't ask for more!
