Before hibernation vacation ~ Nashville, TN

We recently returned from a long weekend trip to Nashville, TN where we enjoyed a NHL Predators  game, our beloved blues, the Musicians Hall of Fame, ate delicious food and spent some quality fun moments with good friends. Our stay at the Homewood Suites Vanderbilt was excellent and a place I'd recommend to anyone wanting to visit for several days with just a few cautions to keep in mind. Of course we did many other things, went many other places, and even managed to get some much needed R&R. If I haven't said it before Tennessee is one of my favorite places. I especially love the mountains but the city girl and music lover in me enjoys an occasional trip to Nashville too.

As for those cautions I mentioned with regards to the hotel.  It is awesome that the hotel provides a free shuttle between 9am and 11pm to and from anyplace within 2 miles of the hotel. It took us everywhere that is anywhere in Nashville and that's a huge bonus. The only problem we had with that shuttle was that it was very busy on weekend evenings and busier as the night pressed on. We ended up stranded at the Bridgestone Arena after the hockey game. We were fine with finding our own way back (it really is an ADA friendly town and finding a cab is the easiest thing in the world to do). We were not fine with the driver not even answering the call or responding to the voice mail, the polite thing to do.

The hotel also has a very good breakfast buffet and even serves a dinner buffet on weekdays. However, Sunday morning the buffet is a mad house we opted to avoid.  A good breakfast before hitting the road would have been nice so this was a big disappointment.  I suppose if we had gotten an earlier start things may have been better but at 8:30 we could not find a table nor could we afford to wait for the food trays to be filled. We grabbed coffee and hit the road without eating.

As far as Nashville goes I'd have to say that there is no possible way anyone could be bored in this town unless you didn't like crowds, music, food, and good times that is.There is just so much to do and so many things to see and it's not just Country.  You can find food, drink and music to fit nearly everyone's taste.

The beginning of the holiday season is upon us and what appears to be a long brutal winter has started early so this was just what we needed to satisfy our love of travel for the year. We will hunker down and stay close to home for the next couple months but I'll bet, before the snow melts, we'll find our way back on the road again.  It's very hard to keep us in one spot for long.
