Governor Thompson State Park is one of the newest parks in the state at 10 years old and it showed. The clean park and buildings at testament to that newness and it appeared there was expansion going on as well. The sites were large and well kept. Surrounded by low brush and tall grasses provided some privacy, not as much as we personally prefer, but definitely adequate. It was the off season so it may not be an accurate account of the park on a seasonal basis but it was mostly quiet. There were mostly older folk camping and few young families.
The bath houses were clean and comfortable. There was not a hand held shower head in the ADA bath but instead it was equipped with duel shower heads, one high and one low which worked. The stall itself was long but a bit narrow making it difficult for two people to fit and for us to easily clean our son but again it was far better than many we've used. We were grateful for plenty of hot water! While camping it seems a shower is a luxury.
We were very happy to find an abundance of wild life in this park and two lakes. We saw many deer and heard coyotes barking in the distance. There were plenty of ways to fill the time. We opted to take a short water fall ride which was really just following a forest trail to some places of nice rapids. This is a park I would recommend, at least during the off season.
