It's been a few years since we were members of a CSA mostly because we were traveling so much it was rare we were home to pick up our box. It seemed pointless to invest in something I was giving away weekly so we stopped. It made me sad.
This season we decided to scale back on our traveling, keeping it mostly within the state and for no more than a week with time in between. It opened me up to considering investing in a CSA again. I looked up my favorite farm share site and found that they do every other week shares now as well. That solidified it for me. I checked my calendar and quickly found we could do this and enjoy the fruits of every single box. I'm in.
Our first box came a week ago Wednesday, just before we left for a bit more than a weeks vacation (more on that later). Being the first it didn't have as much as we see later in the season but I can honestly tell you I loved every ounce of produce we received. Beets, Romain, Sugar Snap Peas, Zucchini, Garlic Scapes, and sunflower shoots were all delicious. We also received a Nasturtium plant which I put in the ground before we left. Unfortunately there was little or no rain here at home while we were away so I found it dried up and dead when we got home. That's the gamble you take with mother nature I suppose.
I pick up our second box this week. I cannot tell you how much I'm looking forward to it. There's something different about fresh picked veggies; the flavor, the texture it's all so much better. I'm feeling very blessed to be able to come back to the things I love!
